Freely we have received, freely Give

Reading the Bible messes you up!

When I was a young man I read what Jesus said to his disciples, “Freely
you have received, freely give.” It marked a place in my heart and I
could never get those words out of my mind. From that time on I have
tried to live by His words. I have freely received so much, I want to
make sure that I freely give much and to be as generous as possible.

That was one of the issues that bothered me 30 years ago when Jesus
called me into full time ministry with Youth Investment Foundation (YIF).
I wondered how I could give much if I had to rely on others to give to me
first. I also had an issue with freely receiving from others. (didn’t
like how it felt at first.)

Of course I was totally wrong.  Recently I looked up the words Jesus
spoke again. I found out that Jesus talked much more than what I remembered.
Jesus says, “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,
drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” (Matthew 10:8)

Jesus blows me out of the water again. He always raises the bar. Not
only should I freely receive and give financially but …. what about all
those other things?

After thinking about it for a while I realized that I have seen Jesus
heal many others asking Him to, I have seen Him drive out demons when I
exercised His power and use the authority He has given me. I have not
met someone with leprosy and I have not seen Him raise anyone from the
dead, but I would love to, wouldn’t you?

I also know that if Jesus says that we should do these thing, that means
that He will give us the tools, faith and wisdom to do them if we submit
to him and ask Him.

I am contiually doing that, how about joining me seeking Jesus and His
power and authority today? And while you are talking to Him, put in a
good word for me also.
